Adryae doesn't trust kings. It trusts machines, the people who build them, and a system where enough signatures can change the law.

Government

Unlike its neighbors, Adryae has no Sovereigni managing the kingdom. It uses technology to guide itself instead. Citizens submit requests, and when enough citizens nominate a request, the action is taken.

Arbitrators gather the votes and sign a request into law once it reaches the threshold.

Advocates take up a specific request and try to persuade as many citizens as possible to sign on.

Technology

Adryae is the home of modern engineering. Most of the Tinkerer Guild lives here, close to the universities and libraries. Adryae invented the airship during the War of Souls to haul alloys from Staerhiel, and in the war's final years it fielded the first souldriven. Mechanoids are common in wealthy Adryaen homes. Adryae is also the one place where fleshgrafters are tolerated, though even here the practice is frowned upon.

History

Ethon nearly destroyed Adryae in the War of Souls. Ethon tore up the rail through the Dryarwood Forest, between Sherfield and Ashborne, which cut Adryae off by rail from Ethon and Staerhiel, and Ethon's ashen overran Adryae's mechanoid war machines. Only in the war's final years did Adryae field the first souldriven. They were few, but effective enough to turn the tide. Adryae also made a treaty with Usmon: in exchange for a powerful artifact, Adryae keeps all war machines out of Usmon and provides military support beyond Usmon's borders.

The Tepor Islands

Technically part of Adryae, the Tepor Islands are mostly run by the Daughters of the Painted Mask. Privateers working the gulf have built settlements nearby.
